Owner of Tops Veterinary Rehabilitation in Grayslake, IL.
Specializes in rehabilitating canine athletes that have sustained
injuries or are recovering from orthopedic surgery.
Acupuncturist and canine chiropractor who believes in
preventative maintenance on our agility dogs.

About the Seminar
This seminar will focus on teaching participants how to do proper canine massage and passive range of motion stretching exercises.  Laurie will talk about when and which to do before and after you compete in an agility run and what do do at home and how often. She will also cover how to spot lamenesses through gait analysis of your dog and explain some exercises she uses to build different muscle groups, teach the dog better propreoception (body awareness) and balance.

Dr. McCauley would like working dogs/people to be able to sit in a semi circle around her so they can practice while she explains what to do.  There will be a lot of time spent sitting on the floor with your dog, you can bring, pads, blankets, etc to make both of you more comfortable or even a grooming table if the dog will relax and lay flat on it!   The working part is very hands on and there is no better way to learn than to practice on your own dog while learning.   Working spot participants can bring a chair and sit while Dr. Laurie explains general stuff and exercises or during question and answer periods but the massage and passive range of motion sections are done on the floor.   Auditors will be given question and answer periods of 10 minutes after each major topic... massage, passive range of motion, etc.

The seminar will be limited to 10 working teams each day.
Unlimited auditors will be allowed.
The same seminar will be presented each day.
A handler can bring more than one dog but only one dog per exercise.
Dogs must not be dog aggressive as they will be close to each other.

About Dr. McCauley
Dr. Laurie McCauley is a 1992 graduate of Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine. After six years of general practice she explored the potential of the emerging field of canine rehabilitation.  After studying and performing research in this field she opened TOPS Veterinary Rehabilitation, the first referral only rehabilitation specific veterinary facility. In 1999 she received her certification by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) in veterinary acupuncture and in 2000 she earned her certification in Veterinary Chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA).  Dr. McCauley implemented and consequently institutionalized the first underwater treadmill for canine sports medicine and rehabilitation and continues to work with companies on innovative rehabilitation equipment. She is a contributing author in Canine Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy as well as Clinical Textbook for Veterinary Technicians.

Since opening TOPS in 1998, it has become one of the world’s most advanced and respected rehabilitation clinics, catering to everything from geriatric arthritic patients to world class canine athletes to the severely paralyzed patient.  Her show and performance patients have included Westminster winners as well as nationally and internationally competitive agility dogs and even the first “Miss Dog America”.  She has developed numerous exercises and a stretching protocol that can benefit athletes, pets and show dogs alike.  After creating an on line community connecting hundreds of veterinarians, physical therapists and veterinary technicians who are participating in canine rehabilitation she is now in the process of forming the American Veterinary Physical Rehabilitation Association (AVPRA).  She lectures nationally and internationally on the topic of canine rehabilitation and is now on faculty at the Animal Rehabilitation Institute, one of only two institutions offering a certificate in canine rehabilitation.
