Class Placement Guidelines

If you are new to WAG classes, or are considering moving up to a new WAG class level, and aren't sure which class is the best fit for your dog, please refer to the information below to determine which class you should register for.

 General Guidelines
Check the Class Move Up Requirements for leg/title requirements for each class level and read the class descriptions on the website. Basically, if your dog knows all equipment at full height/competition level and has no obstacle issues, and has started some basic sequencing but hasn't trialed yet, you should register for Level 2. If your dog has legs or titles in lower level classes (that meet the move up requirements) you can register for Level 3. If your dog is showing at the upper levels (Excellent, Masters) you can register for either Level 3 or Level 4. If in doubt, it is recommended to register for the lower level and then move up the following session if you determine that a higher level would suitable. You may also benefit from coming to observe the class level for which you wish to register to determine if the activities in the class are suitable for your dog's experience level.

 Evaluation Process Starting at Levels 1, 2, 3, 4

 Level 1
While we do accept dog who are new to agility directly into Level 1, we highly recommend that you attend Foundation class before attending Level 1 if at all possible. Dogs who have taken Foundation class progress much faster in Level 1 and graduate with much better skills than those who start in Level 1 with no prior experience.

 Level 2
If your dog has any obstacle issues or is not performing any equipment at a full height/competition level, but you feel that entering Level 1 is too low of a level for your dog, please E-MAIL (no phone calls) the WAG Director of Training at BELGBC@aol.com and include the words 'WAG Class Evaluation' in the subject line. Include in the body of your email a complete description of what your dog's issues are. This must be sent at least a week before class sign up so there is time for the DOT to respond. Video links of your dog performing (showing both what he's good at and where his issues are) are extremely helpful if you have any available. We will sometimes allow a dog to enter Level 2 if the dog has issues with just one particular obstacle, on the understanding that the dog will skip that obstacle in class if necessary, and with the requirement that the dog work on the issue outside of class (either on your own or through arranging private lessons). If your dog has issues with multiple obstacles, we do not feel your dog will have a quality experience in Level 2 and recommend that you either attend Level 1, or take private lessons and follow the recommendations of your private lesson instructor for when your dog is ready to register for a class.

 Levels 3 & 4
If your dog does not have the required legs or titles but you feel your dog should be in a Level 3 or Level 4 class, please E-MAIL (no phone calls) the WAG Director of Training at BELGBC@aol.com and include the words 'WAG Class Evaluation' in the subject line. Describe why you feel your dog is okay for a higher level class. This must be sent at least a week before class sign up so there is time for the DOT to respond. Video links of your dog performing are extremely helpful if you have any available. If you have prior handling/trialing experience with other dogs, please include that information as well.

 In-Person Evaluation
As a last resort, we can schedule an in-person evaluation of your dog. There are two options for this - we can do a quick 5-10 evaluation, for no charge (times available for this may be very limited however), or you can schedule a 1/2-hour or one-hour lesson with one of our instructors (there will be a charge for this) and then ask that instructor to send their recommendation for class level to the DOT. To schedule the free evaluation, please E-MAIL (no phone calls) the WAG Director of Training at BELGBC@aol.com and include the words 'WAG Class Evaluation' in the subject line. To schedule a private lesson, directly contact the instructor with whom you'd like to schedule a lesson (contact and lesson information is included on the WAG website on the instructor page).
